If you’re getting ready to buy some new baking pans – or you were gifted some – but you’re new to baking, you might be unsure of which ones you need or what they’re each for. This quick guide will help with some of the basics.
Sheet Pans
A sheet pan – typically long, flat, and thin – can be used for a variety of purposes. They are excellent for desserts like cookies, but they can also be used for sheet pan cakes and dinners.
Round Pans
Round pans are typically used for baking round cakes. They usually come in a set of two or more, allowing you to bake several pieces and stack them for a tiered cake. You can also use them for things like cheesecake and even pies if you don’t have a regular pie pan.
Rectangular or Square Pans
Square and rectangular pans are pretty versatile, and most people only need one to make many items. However, having a couple around is always a good idea, as you can use them for cakes, cinnamon rolls, brownies, casseroles, and just about anything else you can imagine baking.
Muffin Tins
You know these by a simple glance, as they look just as you’d expect. Of course, they are perfectly molded to make muffins, but you can also use them for cupcakes, cornbread, and many mini dishes – like breakfast bakes.
The baking world is full of great tools and utensils. However, if you’re just starting out, those listed here can help you bake nearly anything you choose while you get comfortable with the process.
