Before I can begin the countdown of the 10 healthiest bowls of cereal,
I must first mention one disclaimer. If you are some 50-year-old guy looking for the best cereal to lower his cholesterol, please, look elsewhere (I hear Cheerios are pretty good though).
This article is for people interested in finding the best cereals for losing weight, being fit, and overall living a healthy life. Katienicholl
While these cereals may not significantly benefit your cholesterol, they have been specifically chosen as cereals that can be eaten in reasonable amounts without ruining your diet. For more information on what makes a healthy cereal, please read my article Are Breakfast Cereals Healthy?
10. Cheerios
While this great cereal really can lower your cholesterol, it can also benefit your diet. While the serving size is only 1 cup, I find cheerios rather filling and really don’t need much more than the serving size. Per serving, Cheerios has 110 calories, 2g of fat, and 22g of carbohydrates.
9. Shredded Wheat
This classic cereal has been around so long its practically ancient. While the serving size is only 2 biscuits, they ARE HUGE! So while there are 155 calories, 1g of fat, and 36g of carbs (6g from fiber, which doesn’t really count since it passes through the body), I dare you to try to eat more than 2 or 3 biscuits.
8. GoLean Crunch
Of all the cereals on this list, the common person would probably believe that GoLean Crunch is one of the healthiest, if not the healthiest. With 200 calories, 3g of fat, and 36g of carbs (8g from fiber), this cereal is a fairly good option. Top 10 Healthiest Cereals
With this kid’s cereal, we start getting to the heavy hitters (aka the cereals with a serving size of 1.25 cups). While you will need the full serving size and maybe a bit more to have a reasonable bowl of cereal, Kix’s 110 calories, 1g of fat, and 25g of carbs are all very respectable. Plus it tastes great!
But with its serving size of only 1 cup, it cannot place any higher, even though 1 cup of this is really a full bowl. *As an extra note, this product contains soy, which has been shown to decrease testosterone levels
7. Kix
(aka the cereals with a serving size of 1.25 cups). While you will need the full serving size and maybe a bit more to have a reasonable bowl of cereal, Kix’s 110 calories, 1g of fat, and 25g
6. Rice Chex
Let me start out by saying that while this cereal is very healthy,
it doesn’t really taste that good… But anyway, it is very healthy, with 120 calories, 0g of fat, and 26g of carbs per serving, which is 1.25 cups.
As an added bonus, you tend to eat less of foods that don’t taste good, so it might be a good thing for your diet!
