If you’re a golfing enthusiast, or even just have a mild interest in the sport, you’re probably already reasonably familiar with the idea of the Ryder Cup.
This is a competition that takes place between a US team and a European team every two years, with the venue alternating between the USA and Europe.
The associations select their team members based on the points lists, which allow most of the team members for the USA and Europe to qualify for the competition automatically, with the additional places on the team being filled by players selected at the discretion of the team captain. Katienicholl
In total each team will have twelve players. The players then participate in the competition, which takes place over a course of three days; offering foursomes, four ball, and singles match play.
The Ryder Cup this Year
The Ryder Cup returns this year, with the events having started on the 23rd of September for public relations, announcements and the team reveal.
The competition itself will be starting on the 26th of September, with the morning offering four balls from 7:35 am and the afternoon offering foursomes from 1:15 pm.
The second day will start will follow the same schedule as the first; with four-ball in the morning and foursomes in the afternoon, and the third day will consist entirely of singles, with players starting at twelve-minute intervals from 11:36 am.
This year the cup is held in Scotland; hosted by the Glen eagles Hotel in Perth shire.
The club has a number of courses on the grounds, many of which remain open to play during the competition, which will take part on the PGA Centenary Course – a modern classic created to offer a championship standard
